By using Nalan Canvas you agree to what follows. It is short because the service is small: there is no account, no payment, and almost nothing we hold on your behalf.
What Nalan Canvas is
A notebook that runs in your browser and stores your notes on your own device, plus an optional service for publishing encrypted, read-only share links.
Nalan Canvas is operated by WWB LLC ("we"). Where these terms limit liability, they limit the liability of that entity.
It is provided free of charge, as-is.
Your notes are your responsibility
Your notes live in your browser's storage, on your device. We have no copy.
That means we cannot recover anything for you — not if you clear your browser data, not if your device fails, not if a browser evicts the storage under disk pressure, and not if you delete something by mistake and the trash window has passed.
Keep your own backups. Export is one click and produces a file you own; on supported browsers you can also have Nalan Canvas mirror a backup into a folder you choose. If your notes matter, use one of them.
Share links
Publishing is optional and entirely up to you.
- A share link is unlisted, not secret. Anyone with the link can read it. Do not publish anything you would not be comfortable with a stranger seeing if the link were forwarded.
- The ability to update or unpublish a link is stored only in the browser you published from. Lose that browser's storage and the link stays live and readable, and you will no longer be able to take it down.
- You are responsible for what you publish. Do not publish anything unlawful, anything that infringes someone else's rights, or anything designed to harm or deceive the people who open it.
- We may remove published content and block abuse of the publishing service. We cannot read what you publish, so in practice this means acting on reports and on patterns of abusive use.
Availability
There are no uptime guarantees. The publishing service may be slow, unavailable, rate-limited, or withdrawn.
The editor itself does not depend on us: once loaded it works offline indefinitely, and your notes remain on your device and exportable regardless of whether the publishing service is running or this project continues.
No warranty, and limits on liability
Nalan Canvas is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss of data, loss of profits, or any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of Nalan Canvas — including data loss. This is a free tool with no copy of your work; the responsibility for backups is yours.
Open-source software
Nalan Canvas is built on open-source software, listed with its licences at /licenses.txt. Those licences govern those components.
Changes
These terms may change. The updated date above changes with them, and continuing to use Nalan Canvas means accepting the current version.
